Madeleine Parent Bridge, Road bridge in Beauharnois, Canada
The Madeleine Parent Bridge is a concrete road bridge spanning roughly 2550 meters across the Saint Lawrence River at a height of about 38 meters. The structure consists of two identical parallel decks with a total of six traffic lanes, including one dedicated lane for heavy trucks.
Construction of this structure began in 2009 and was completed in 2012, marking a major improvement to Quebec's transportation connections. The project represented an important step in enhancing regional travel links at that time.
The bridge carries the name of Madeleine Parent, a Canadian labor activist who fought for workers' rights. This official designation was given in 2013 by the Quebec Toponymy Commission.
The bridge offers wide lanes and is designed for different vehicle types, with clear markings for through traffic. Visitors can best experience it by crossing during daytime when visibility is optimal and traffic conditions are most predictable.
This structure was built using the incremental launch method, a specialized technique that makes it one of the world's longest bridges constructed this way. This method allowed engineers to span the river without requiring traditional in-water supports.
