John E. Pearce Provincial Park, Provincial park in Elgin County, Canada.
John E. Pearce Provincial Park is a 68-hectare park along Lake Erie's north shore featuring centuries-old hardwood forests, wetlands, and a 33-meter cliff overlooking the water. The property protects a mix of woodland and wetland habitat with several marked trails throughout.
John E. Pearce and his wife purchased the land in 1925 to preserve it in its natural state, leading to the park's establishment in 1957. Conservation efforts continued in subsequent decades, expanding protection of the ecosystem.
The Backus Page House Museum within the park displays artifacts from rural Victorian domestic life in a Georgian-style residence built in the 1850s. The collection reflects how people lived and worked in this region during that era.
The park operates from June through October and offers marked trails, interpretive signs, and observation opportunities throughout the Carolinian forest zone. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear since some paths pass through wet areas and can become slippery in damp conditions.
The Mary Storey Wetlands Trail connects three restored wetland areas with viewing platforms, allowing visitors to observe the local ecosystem up close. The path winds through different aquatic habitats where uncommon plants and animal species thrive.
