Gilbert's Cove Lighthouse, Maritime navigation beacon in Gilbert's Cove, Canada.
The lighthouse consists of a white two-story square building with wood shingles, a hipped roof, and a central lantern mounted on top.
Built in 1904, the lighthouse aided captains navigating St. Mary's Bay and served as a strategic observation point against German U-Boats during World War II.
William Melanson and his family maintained the lighthouse for nearly 70 years, living in the structure while performing their essential maritime duties.
The Gilbert Cove and District Historical Society operates the lighthouse as a museum, tearoom, and gift shop from mid-June through mid-September.
This structure stands as one of only two remaining lighthouses of its architectural style in Nova Scotia, rising 29 feet above its base.
