Scarborough General Hospital, hospital in Ontario, Canada
Scarborough General Hospital is a public hospital in the east end of Toronto, Canada, offering emergency care, surgical services, mental health programs, and cardiac care. It is part of the Scarborough Health Network, which groups several hospitals serving the eastern part of the city.
The hospital was founded in 1956 by the Sisters of Misericorde to meet the needs of a growing community in Toronto's east end. It merged with neighboring hospitals in 2016 to form the Scarborough Health Network.
The hospital sits in one of Toronto's most ethnically diverse areas, and this is reflected in how care is delivered. Staff often speak multiple languages, which helps patients who are more comfortable in a language other than English.
The hospital can be reached by several bus routes, and Victoria Park subway station is about a 15-minute walk away. On-site parking is available for those arriving by car, and nearby shops make it easier to manage a longer visit.
When it opened its new emergency and critical care center in 2009, the hospital became the first in the world to run two key imaging systems on a single shared platform. This setup allows heart patients to receive faster and more precise diagnoses than with separate systems.
