Sir Robert L. Borden Business and Technical Institute

The Sir Robert L. Borden Business and Technical Institute was a secondary school in eastern Scarborough that focused on vocational training and business studies. It offered a range of technical and business courses to prepare students for careers in various fields.

The school opened in 1966 through the Scarborough Board of Education to serve the growing community. It closed in 2016 when enrollment declined and the institution could no longer sustain its operations.

The school maintained strong ties with local businesses and employers in the area. Students learned computer technology, business administration, and skilled trades that connected directly to job opportunities nearby.

The site is now an unused brownfield and access is not open to the public. The city of Toronto has development plans for the location, though specifics remain under planning.

The building is one of the few remaining technical school structures left in Scarborough, as similar schools in the region were demolished after closure. This makes it a rare example of this particular school building type.
