Stanserhorn

Stanserhorn is a mountain in Nidwalden rising to 1,898 meters, offering views spanning ten lakes and multiple Alpine peaks. The journey to the summit involves first taking a traditional funicular railway, then transferring to a cable car system for the final ascent.

The funicular railway to this summit was constructed in 1893 and represented one of the earliest electrically powered mountain transportation systems globally. This innovation fundamentally changed how people could access the peak.

The summit features a restaurant serving local dishes made with ingredients sourced from nearby farms and producers. Visitors can taste regional flavors while taking in views of the surrounding landscape.

Visits are possible year-round, though weather conditions can affect visibility and accessibility. It is wise to prepare for changing Alpine conditions and bring appropriate clothing for temperature changes at elevation.

The CabriO cable car system installed in 2012 is the first double-deck design with open-air upper seating, allowing passengers to experience unobstructed views and fresh mountain air during ascent. This unusual design creates a memorable sensation of rising toward the peak.
