Nidau Castle, Medieval castle in Nidau, Switzerland
The stone fortress contains a 40-meter tall central keep with walls measuring 2.8 meters in thickness and two remaining circular defensive towers.
The first stone structure replaced a wooden fortress in the early 13th century, serving as residence for the counts of Nidau until 1375.
The castle exhibits architectural elements from different periods, including a 17th-century residential wing and preserved interior features from various centuries.
The castle currently houses the cantonal administration offices and contains exhibition spaces dedicated to regional water management history.
The structure maintained its military and administrative functions continuously from the 13th century through changes in regional control and governance.
