Adlisberg, Mountain peak near Zürich, Switzerland
Adlisberg is a forested hill on the eastern edge of Zürich, rising between Lake Zürich and the Glatt river valley. A network of walking paths crosses the wooded slopes and leads up to the open ridge at the top.
The Dübelstein castle ruins on the northeastern side of the ridge show that this hill was occupied during the medieval period. The castle was abandoned in the 14th century and has remained a ruin ever since.
The summit restaurant on Adlisberg draws local families on weekends, especially after a walk through the surrounding forest. The terrace looks out over Zürich and the lake, making it a natural stop for people spending the day outdoors.
The summit can be reached by the Dolderbahn rack railway or by bus, with stops near the base of the hill. The paths are well marked, but the forest tracks can get slippery after rain, so sturdy shoes are a good idea.
The Loorenkopf observation tower, standing 33 meters tall on the eastern part of the ridge, is built from wood and blends into the forest edge so well that many walkers only notice it when they are right beside it. From the top, the view stretches across Lake Zürich in one direction and into the hills of Canton Zürich in the other.
