Jegihorn, Alpine summit in Valais, Switzerland
Jägihorn is an Alpine peak in the Valais region that rises 3,206 meters and offers several climbing routes across steep rock faces. The mountain provides different difficulty levels, allowing climbers of varying experience to choose routes that match their skills and equipment.
The mountain was explored by early Alpine explorers in the 19th century who established the first documented climbing paths to its summit. These pioneering routes formed the foundation for today's climbing courses, which were later expanded with fixed equipment.
Local mountain guides from Valais maintain the via ferrata routes and teach traditional Alpine climbing techniques to visiting climbers throughout the season.
The climb begins from Saas-Grund village, where the Hohsaas cogwheel railway provides easy access to the climbing routes. The terrain is steep and requires a head for heights, so visitors should bring solid mountain boots and have climbing experience.
The via ferrata spans 1,000 meters with steel cables and five ladders, including a steel bridge across vertical rock sections. This mix of climbing and bridge walking creates a distinctive challenge on the way to the summit.
