Piz Lischana, Alpine summit in Grisons, Switzerland
Piz Lischana is an alpine peak in the Sesvenna Range, rising to 3,105 meters above sea level. From the summit, views stretch across multiple mountain ranges and the valleys below.
The summit experienced a major rockfall in 2011 when about 2,000 cubic meters of rock collapsed into Val de Triazza. This event led to modifications of the hiking trails in the area.
The mountain features the Chamanna Lischana mountain hut, managed by the Swiss Alpine Club, which serves as a base for mountaineers and hikers.
The main route ascends the South-East ridge from Fuorcla de Rims at 2,940 meters elevation. The climb is demanding and requires solid mountain experience and footwork skills.
The Vadret de Lischana glacier once covered 4 square kilometers but has shrunk to just two small ice patches below the South-East ridge. This visible retreat of ice is a striking sign of how mountain glaciers are changing over time.
