Holzbrücke Bad Säckingen

First documented in 1272, the bridge underwent multiple reconstructions due to floods and military conflicts, with major renovations occurring between 1700 and 1830.

The structure contains religious chapels and polychrome statues of Saint Francis Xavier and Saint John Nepomuk, reflecting regional architectural traditions.

Since 1979, the bridge serves as a dedicated crossing point for pedestrians and cyclists between Germany and Switzerland at the Rhine border.

During the Cold War, explosives were stored within the bridge pillars for security purposes until their removal during restoration work in 2014.
