Basler Messeturm, High-rise building at Messeplatz, Basel, Switzerland
The Basler Messeturm is a high-rise building on Messeplatz in Basel, Switzerland, rising 105 meters with glass facades and geometric forms. Inside, it holds a hotel with around 200 rooms, office spaces, conference facilities, and a rooftop bar with views over the city.
Construction of the tower began in 2001 and was completed in 2003, as part of a broader renewal of the Messeplatz area in Basel. It was one of several projects that reshaped this part of the city during that period.
The ground floor of the tower regularly shows works by Basel-based artists, making it more than just an office or hotel building. These changing exhibitions are open to all visitors and give the building a connection to the city's creative life.
The tower sits directly on Messeplatz and is easy to reach on foot from nearby transport links. The ground floor with its art exhibitions is open to visitors, while the rooftop bar has its own hours worth checking before you go.
The glass facades are fitted with special films that block a large part of solar radiation without affecting the view from inside. This makes the tower one of the earlier examples of climate-aware construction in Switzerland.
