Gross Lohner, Limestone mountain summit in Bernese Oberland, Switzerland
The Gross Lohner rises to 3,049 meters with multiple peaks including Mittler Lohner, Hinder Lohner, and Mittaghorn spread across its limestone massif.
Mountain guides Ogi and Hari completed the first documented ascent of Gross Lohner in 1875, followed by Carl Durheim as the first tourist in 1876.
The mountain territory between Adelboden and Kandersteg represents traditional Swiss mountaineering practices with established climbing routes and mountain huts.
The Lohnerhütte, positioned midway up the western face, provides shelter for climbers attempting the three main ridge routes to the summit.
The mountain features substantial scree slopes and requires technical climbing skills to reach the Mittler Lohner through the demanding rock face routes.
