Our Chalet, WAGGGS World Centre in Adelboden, Switzerland
Our Chalet is an international scouting center located in Adelboden at 1,350 meters (4,430 feet) elevation in the Bernese Oberland region. The property includes multiple buildings for lodging, classrooms, and outdoor activity spaces.
Helen Storrow founded the center in 1932 as the first World Centre of the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts organization. During World War II, it served to train military skiers and shelter refugees while regular programs paused.
Young women from around the world come here to participate in leadership programs and outdoor activities together, creating daily interactions across different countries. Visitors experience cultural exchange as an everyday part of the center's life in the mountains.
The center is best reached by air, with Basel, Geneva, Zurich, and Milan offering nearby airports. From there, visitors can use public transportation to reach Adelboden in the mountains.
The center hosted intensive ski training for Swiss military skiers in the 1940s, a chapter that visitors often overlook today. This wartime role remains a less-known part of the location's story.
