Saint Agnesen monastery, Benedictine monastery in Schaffhausen, Switzerland
The Saint Agnesen monastery stands as a religious complex with multiple buildings, including chapels and gardens within the eastern city walls of Schaffhausen.
Count Burkhard von Nellenburg founded the monastery in 1080 for his mother Countess Ita, making it the second monastery established in Schaffhausen.
The monastery functioned as a center for Benedictine nuns until the Reformation period, when it transformed into a hospital for the local community.
The former monastery buildings now serve as a retirement home, while the Ochsenscheune section functions as a parish center for the Protestant Reformed Church.
During its peak in the early 14th century, the monastery limited its number of sisters to 60 due to high demand for membership.
