Ausstellungsraum Klingental, Artist-run exhibition space in Basel, Switzerland
Ausstellungsraum Klingental is an artist-run exhibition space located on the ground floor of a former monastery church in Basel. The venue presents contemporary art across diverse mediums and approaches through regularly changing shows.
The space was founded in 1974 out of conversations about supporting young artists and rethinking museum practices. Architects Herzog & de Meuron later redesigned and renovated the building to shape its current form.
The space brings together artists, art historians, and cultural workers who collaborate on exhibitions and programming. Visitors experience a working environment where different generations of creators and thinkers interact openly.
Entry is free and the venue follows set opening hours on specific days of the week. The location near Rheingasse tram stop makes it easy to reach by public transport.
This is one of Switzerland's longest continuously operating artist spaces, having maintained its experimental spirit since its founding. The longevity allows it to provide emerging artists with genuine exhibition opportunities.
