Blarer Castle

Blarer Castle is a manor house in Aesch featuring Neo-Gothic elements, including a distinctive stone half-round tower that faces Hauptstrasse. Several auxiliary buildings surround the main structure, creating a unified residential complex.

The Blarer family of Wartensee built this castle between 1605 and 1606, using wealth from their linen trade to fund the construction. The building later transitioned from private residence to public use, serving various community functions over the centuries.

The building shapes the village's appearance and serves as the seat of local government, showing how it moved from a noble residence to a community institution. Visitors can see how the structure connects to people's daily life and the area's identity.

Visitors can access the public areas and gardens during regular office hours when the municipal offices are open. The vaulted cellar below ground level provides an interesting space for events and special occasions.

The building was designed as a residence rather than a fortress, reflecting how changes in weapon technology during the 17th century made medieval fortifications obsolete. This choice meant the structure prioritized comfort and style over defense.
