Kaiserstuhl-Bürglen, Mountain village near Lake Lungern, Switzerland
Kaiserstuhl-Bürglen is a mountain village at the northern edge of Lake Lungern, situated at about 700 meters elevation and made up of two linked settlements. The location sits near a railway route and is surrounded by meadows and forests that define the landscape.
The settlement developed over centuries as a rural area, with both parts forming one of the three original districts of Lungern municipality. This early structure shaped how the community grew and its role in the wider region.
The village maintains strong agricultural roots that shape daily life: farmers work the surrounding meadows and fields, and locally produced goods remain central to the community. This connection to the land and traditional work is visible in how people use and care for the settlement.
The settlement is easy to reach by train, as the Brünig railway line between Lucerne and Interlaken stops here. Visitors who prefer walking can find paths around the village that lead to nearby woodlands and to the lake.
The former turbine house of a power plant now operates as a fishing supply shop for lake anglers, a conversion that began in 2014. This transformation shows how the place adapts while keeping its industrial past visible.
