Reformierte Kirche Santa Maria Val Müstair, Reformed church in Val Müstair, Switzerland
The Reformierte Kirche Santa Maria Val Müstair is a church building in this Alpine valley with a pyramid-shaped steeple on its southern facade. The choir area contains medieval paintings showing seven Apostles.
The current structure replaced a Romanesque church in 1492 under the direction of Andreas Bühler. Portions of the original foundations were retained during this reconstruction.
The northeastern wall displays a large Christophorus painting created in 1513 by a master artist from South Tyrol. This artwork shows the strong artistic connection between this Alpine valley and regions to the south.
The church is located on Via Vegla in Santa Maria and welcomes visitors to explore its architectural and artistic elements. Regular services are held here, so check timing before your visit.
A stained glass window titled Abraham was designed by artist Gian Casty in 1975 and installed in the northern section. This modern glass work stands in sharp contrast to the medieval paintings surrounding it.
