Wildenmannlisloch

The limestone cave extends 142 meters into the northern slope of Churfirsten range at an elevation of 1640 meters above sea level.

Archaeological excavations between 1923 and 1928 revealed numerous cave bear bones and stone tools dating back to the Mousterian period, 40,000 years ago.

The cave, designated as a class A Swiss cultural property, holds significant archaeological value for understanding prehistoric human settlements in Alpine regions.

Visitors reach the cave through marked hiking trails from Selamattstrasse, with the entrance located north of peak Selun in canton St. Gallen.

The cave chamber, situated 60 meters from the entrance, maintained dimensions large enough for historical access by horse and wagon.
