French aviator Reynold Jaboulin discovered the suitable landing site between Wangen and Dübendorf in 1909, leading to its establishment as an airfield in 1910.
The Air Force Center houses aviation exhibitions and historical aircraft collections, presenting the progression of Swiss military aviation through the decades.
The base maintains facilities for helicopters and specialized aircraft of the Swiss Air Force while supporting various aviation-related educational programs and demonstrations.
On August 18, 1932, Auguste Piccard and Max Cosyns launched from this location in a gas balloon, reaching a record altitude of 16,940 meters.
