Muraltengut, Late Baroque manor house in Zürich, Switzerland
Muraltengut is a late Baroque manor house in Zurich featuring Italian Renaissance elements, built between 1777 and 1782. The estate includes symmetrical staircases, expansive lawns, and carefully landscaped gardens with water features.
Entrepreneur Johannes Werdmüller built the manor house in the early 1780s. It later became the residence of Zurich mayor Hans Conrad von Muralt, who hosted Swiss and foreign diplomats there.
The name comes from Hans Conrad von Muralt, a Zurich mayor who used the estate as an official representation venue. Today visitors can explore the maintained gardens and experience the architecture of this longstanding civic landmark.
The public gardens are accessible by tram 7 to Brunaustrasse station. Regular guided tours are available for visitors who want to explore the interior spaces and grounds.
Manually trimmed linden trees in box shapes line the former lakeshore, creating a boundary between the garden and railway tracks. This type of planting formation is unique to Zurich and reflects traditional gardening craftsmanship.
