Ruins Madeln, Castle ruin on Adler Mountain in Pratteln, Switzerland
The medieval fortification features a double wall system with moats surrounding the central structure on the highest point of Adler Mountain.
The Lords of Eptingen constructed the castle in 1270, which later suffered extensive damage during the Basel earthquake of 1356.
The ruins represent a significant regional heritage site, included in the official list of cultural properties of Pratteln canton.
Visitors should note that the original castle remains were covered with soil in 1943 to prevent further deterioration of the structure.
During World War II military construction in 1939, soldiers discovered castle walls, leading to excavations that revealed two preserved great helms.
