Nietzsche-Haus, Sils-Maria

The Nietzsche-Haus is a museum in Sils-Maria dedicated to German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and occupies a 19th-century building. It displays five permanent exhibitions, including a reconstructed study and bedroom that show how the philosopher lived during his stays.

Nietzsche stayed in this house during seven consecutive summers between 1881 and 1888, marking an important phase of his life. This isolated Alpine setting was where some of his most influential philosophical ideas took shape.

The building reveals how the philosopher spent his summer retreats and what role this Alpine valley played in his intellectual work. Visitors can see how daily life unfolded for a thinker who returned regularly to this remote location.

The museum preserves an extensive collection of original manuscripts and personal belongings, including the philosopher's death mask. Many of these objects come from his time as a professor in Basel and offer insight into his academic life.
