Pont suspendu de Niouc, Suspension bridge and aqueduct in Val d'Anniviers, Switzerland
Pont suspendu de Niouc is a suspension bridge carrying a water pipeline across the Navizence River in Val d'Anniviers, Switzerland. The structure stretches 200 meters and rises 190 meters above the valley floor, held up by a network of red metal cables.
The bridge was completed in 1922 to carry water for irrigation to the village of Briey. This engineering solution transported water across the deep ravine using a pipeline system integrated into the structure.
The bridge became a symbol of Swiss engineering excellence, connecting communities in the Valais region while serving multiple functional purposes.
The bridge is accessible by car from nearby towns and features a narrow walkway for visitors to cross on foot. The path is exposed and elevated, so sure footing and a head for heights are helpful when walking across.
Since 1997 bungee jumping has taken place from the bridge, turning it into a destination for adventure sports enthusiasts. This added use has complemented the original water transport function and brought new visitors to the remote location.
