Sasso Gordona, Mountain summit in Schignano, Italy
Sasso Gordona rises to 1410 meters in elevation within the Gruppo Gordona-Bisbino range, featuring steep rocky slopes and grassy terrain near the peak.
The mountain contains numerous military fortifications and tunnels from World War I, forming part of the defensive Cadorna Line in northern Italy.
Wooden statues placed along the trails commemorate the soldiers who served in the mountain positions during the First World War period.
The ascent from Pian dell'Alpe to Rifugio Prabello takes 45 minutes, followed by an additional hour of hiking through marked paths to reach the summit.
Fixed ropes assist climbers during the final approach to the summit, where a cross marks the highest point of this Lombardy mountain peak.
