Sasso Gordona

Sasso Gordona is a mountain summit rising to 1410 meters (4626 feet) in the Gruppo Gordona-Bisbino range, featuring steep rocky slopes and grassy terrain near the peak. The landscape varies between dramatic rock faces and open meadows.

The mountain served as a fortified position during World War I as part of the Cadorna Line, a defensive chain in northern Italy. Tunnels and fortifications from this era remain visible in the terrain.

Wooden statues placed along the trails honor soldiers who served in mountain positions during World War I. These monuments shape the hiking experience and show how deeply military history is embedded in this landscape.

The climb from Pian dell'Alpe to Rifugio Prabello takes about 45 minutes, followed by roughly an hour on marked paths to reach the summit. Fixed ropes assist during the final sections, requiring some care and attention.

A cross marks the highest point and serves as a visible goal for hikers during the ascent. This landmark can be spotted from various angles and helps with orientation during the climb.
