Cassarate–Monte Brè funicular

The Cassarate-Monte Brè cable car has two separate sections that climb from the city to the summit with a middle stop at Suvigliana. The lower section carries fewer passengers than the upper section, which has greater capacity.

This cable car opened in 1908 and made it possible for the mountain village to develop as a permanent place to live. The regular service that began then has continued to connect the heights with the city below.

The village at the top relies on this cable car as its daily link to the city below. Art installations are woven into the mountain landscape and shape how the place appears to visitors.

The cable car runs throughout the day with frequent departures, making it easy for hikers to go up and return on foot if they prefer. The stations are straightforward to access, so visitors of all mobility levels can make the journey.

The mountain colors change dramatically in autumn, turning the slopes into shades of gold and red that are best seen from the top. On clear days, the view stretches across Lake Lugano and toward the distant Alpine peaks.
