Nouveau Monde, Cultural entertainment venue in central Fribourg, Switzerland.
Nouveau Monde is a performance venue in central Fribourg housed within a former railway station building. It features a main hall for up to 300 standing guests, a smaller space called Aile Est, plus a cafe and several seminar rooms for different types of events.
The building dates to 1827 when it served as a railway station, before being transformed into a performance space. Its conversion starting in 2007 shows how Fribourg has given historic structures new cultural purposes.
The venue brings together musicians, performers, and thinkers through concerts, theater productions, and regular events organized by the University of Fribourg. Visitors find themselves in a space where creative and intellectual exchange happens naturally throughout the year.
The venue sits in the center at Esplanade de l'Ancienne Gare, making it easy to reach on foot from most parts of the old town. The on-site cafe provides food and drinks for visitors before and after events.
The venue hosts science cafes where visitors can join discussions about topics like climate change and agriculture alongside regular concerts and theater. This blend of artistic performances with public intellectual dialogue sets it apart from typical performance halls.
