Pùnt da Suransuns, Stressed ribbon bridge in Zillis-Reischen, Switzerland.
Pùnt da Suransuns is a footbridge that crosses the river using thin steel strips and granite planks as its main elements. The slender construction gives the bridge an airy feeling while connecting two parts of the valley floor.
The bridge was completed in 1999 as infrastructure for the Via Spluga hiking route through the valley. Architect Jürg Conzett designed it using engineering methods suited to the mountain setting.
The structure represents modern Swiss engineering principles through its minimal material usage and integration with the mountain environment.
Access is from hiking paths and the bridge is marked for pedestrian use during valley walks through the area. The surface can be slippery depending on weather, so proper footwear is important when crossing.
The structure uses an unusual leaf-spring arrangement at its support points, allowing more movement than standard bridge designs. This flexible system adapts to temperature shifts and river vibrations throughout the seasons.
