Gorges de Kola

Gorges de Kola is a natural valley near Guider featuring polished rock walls and a narrow passage that water has carved over time. The formation contains interior passages with distinct rock formations that visitors can explore throughout the gorge system.

The gorges were named after the Kola people, a Daba-speaking group from the Diamare region in Far North Cameroon. This early population left its mark on the place's geographic and cultural identity.

The gorges take their name from the Kola people who have inhabited this region for generations. The rock walls and flowing water shape how visitors move through and experience the landscape today.

The site is accessible during the nine-month dry season when water levels remain low and interior exploration is possible. Heavy rains can make access difficult or unsafe in the remaining months, so timing your visit around the water levels is important.

According to local accounts, a particular cave within the gorges hosts fish that appear only once yearly for a brief month-long fishing period. This unusual occurrence draws the attention of fishermen and curious visitors who want to witness the event.
