Sanda Kyarimi Park, Zoological park in Maiduguri, Nigeria.
Sanda Kyarimi Park is a 42-acre zoo in Maiduguri that houses lions, elephants, crocodiles, snakes, and many bird species across landscaped grounds. The separate exhibits are spread throughout the property, each designed to accommodate different animal needs.
The site originated as a forest reserve in 1970 and later transformed into a wildlife sanctuary. It carries the name of Shehu Sanda Kyarimi, a historical leader of the Borno region during the mid-20th century.
The park functions as an educational destination where local school groups come to observe wildlife and learn about conservation in a direct, hands-on way.
The park is located between the High Court and the business district along Shehu Laminu Way and operates during regular hours. Early morning and late afternoon visits are ideal times to see animals at their most active.
A section called Monkey Village displays several primate species, including red pandas and baboons. A longtime resident chimpanzee in this area engages with visitors during visits.
