Beijing Capital International Airport, International airport in Chaoyang District, China
Beijing Capital International Airport is a large international aerodrome in the northeastern part of the city within Chaoyang District. The facility includes three main terminals connected by a ground transportation system that covers a considerable area.
The aerodrome opened in March 1958 with a single runway. Over the decades it grew into the main aviation center for northern China.
The third terminal displays traditional Chinese design through red columns and ceiling patterns that recall dragon imagery. Art installations throughout the building showcase local crafts and contemporary works, giving travelers a glimpse into Chinese culture while they wait.
The Capital Airport Express train connects travelers to downtown Beijing in roughly 20 minutes. Many bus lines serve surrounding cities and provinces for further travel options.
The grounds serve as the central hub for Air China operations. In 2023, over 52 million passengers passed through the three terminals.
