Chaoyang District, Administrative district in Beijing, China
Chaoyang District spreads across the eastern part of Beijing and includes residential areas, business quarters, and diplomatic facilities. The landscape shifts between high-rise buildings, parks, and wide streets that connect different neighborhoods.
From the 1980s onward, the area shifted from farmland into a densely built urban landscape. Development quickened after Beijing received the 2008 Olympic Games assignment.
The artistic quarters within the district draw visitors interested in contemporary Chinese art and design. These spaces often arose in repurposed industrial buildings and combine galleries with workshops where local artists work and exhibit.
Several subway lines cross the area and enable quick connections to other parts of the city. The international airport sits to the northeast and offers direct access for travelers from abroad.
The central business quarter houses the CCTV headquarters with its unusual loop shape formed by a horizontal connection between two leaning towers. This construction creates a continuous walkway at around 525 feet (160 meters) above ground.
