Beihai Park is a Chinese imperial garden in Shichahai Subdistrict, Beijing, covering 69 hectares (170 acres) with large water surfaces, traditional buildings, and structures from several dynasties. The park consists of multiple connected areas with bridges, pavilions, and wooded islands.
The garden was created in 1166 during the Liao Dynasty under the name Yaoyu. It served as a retreat for government affairs and ceremonies across five imperial dynasties.
The White Dagoba on Jade Flower Island blends Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist architectural forms. Visitors often see local residents practicing Tai Chi in the mornings or strolling along the pathways.
The park is reachable by several public transport options, and visitors can walk the pathways, take boat rides, or explore the green spaces. Many areas allow open access, so you can move at your own pace.
The Nine-Dragon Wall from 1402 displays detailed dragon reliefs made from glazed bricks. It is one of only three surviving walls of this type in all of China.
