The Pagoda of Monk Wansong is an octagonal brick tower with nine levels that displays architectural features from two distinct periods of Chinese history. The inner structure differs significantly from its outer shell, showing how different construction phases left their marks on the building.
This memorial structure was built in the middle of the 13th century and received major construction changes about 500 years later. The renovation in the early 18th century fundamentally shaped its appearance today.
The site honors a respected Chan Buddhist teacher whose memory remained important across generations in this region. Today visitors walk through spaces that show how local people sustained this memorial tradition over time.
The grounds are laid out with garden beds full of pomegranate and rose plants that create a pleasant setting as you explore. Multiple exhibition rooms display historical artifacts and require moderate walking ability to move between the different areas.
Hidden inside is a completely preserved early structure from the 13th century, surrounded by a much later outer shell. This layered architecture was only fully revealed during modern restoration work.
