The CPPCC Auditorium is an assembly hall in Beijing's Xicheng District, built with European architectural elements and decorated with gold emblems at its entrance. It stands on Taipingqiao Street and spreads across several floors that hold conference rooms, a large main hall, and dining areas.
Construction started in 1954 on the orders of Premier Zhou Enlai and was finished in 1956, making it one of the early large public buildings of the People's Republic. A full renovation took place in 1995 to bring the facilities up to date.
The building serves as the main gathering place for the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a national advisory body. During sessions, the formal arrangement of the entrance halls and the gold emblems give the space a ceremonial character that visitors can clearly notice.
The auditorium is in central Beijing, close to other government buildings, and is easy to reach by public transport. Since the venue may be reserved for official events on certain days, it is worth checking access conditions before visiting.
Although the building uses architectural styles more associated with Europe than China, it was built in the 1950s inside the People's Republic, which was an unusual combination for that era.
