Qufu, Administrative center in Shandong, China

The city extends across 815 square kilometers of southwestern Shandong province, with four central subdistricts and eight surrounding towns at 65 meters elevation.

During the Spring and Autumn period, Qufu served as the capital of the Lu state before becoming a significant center of Chinese philosophy and education.

The Temple of Confucius, Cemetery of Confucius, and Kong Family Mansion form the San Kong complex, recognized as UNESCO World Heritage monuments in 1994.

The Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway connects Qufu to major cities, while local buses provide transportation between cultural sites and residential areas.

The name Qufu derives from a mile-long crooked hill that defined the ancient city's landscape during its time as the Lu state capital.
