Faux Namti Bridge, Railway truss bridge in Wantang Township, Pingbian Miao Autonomous County, China.
The Faux Namti Bridge is a railway bridge in Wantang Township that crosses the Sicha River using an inverted V design made of steel trusses. The structure rises approximately 102 meters above the river and stands out as a distinctive landmark in the mountainous terrain.
The bridge was built between 1907 and 1908 as part of a railway line intended to connect Kunming with Haiphong. French engineers from the Batignolles company designed and constructed this structure in a remote mountain region of that era.
The bridge stands as a testament to early 20th-century engineering within the diverse Miao ethnic region of Yunnan Province near the Vietnamese border.
The structure is located at kilometer 111 of the Kunming-Hekou Railway and continues to be used by train traffic today. The site remains difficult to access and requires careful planning when visiting this remote location.
Installing this bridge required specialized winch operations and larger work crews to position the heavy steel components at this remote mountain location. This logistical challenge made the project a notable technical accomplishment for its era.
