Former Marine Police Headquarters, Victorian declared monument in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.
The Former Marine Police Headquarters is a three-story red brick building in Tsim Sha Tsui with arched windows, decorative cornices, and a layout designed for maritime operations. Inside, you find a central courtyard surrounded by covered walkways and stone flooring that reflect its original purpose.
The building opened in 1884 to monitor ships and activities in Victoria Harbour. Its operations ended in 1996 when the headquarters moved to another location.
The building shows how British colonial design and Chinese elements came together in one space. Visitors can see preserved cells and exhibits that tell the story of Hong Kong's role as a major port.
The building sits on Canton Road and now houses shops, restaurants, and exhibition spaces that are easy to explore. The nearby MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station makes visiting straightforward.
The building includes a restored timeball tower that once sent time signals to ships entering the harbor. The mechanical system allowed vessels to set their navigation equipment to the precise harbor time.
