The Ancient City of Xuanhua features a rectangular layout with stone walls extending over 12 kilometers, incorporating multiple gates and defensive structures.
During the Ming Dynasty, Xuanhua served as the command center of Xuanfu garrison, one of nine military strongholds protecting the Great Wall borderlands.
The city preserves traditional shops, local food establishments, and hosts regular festivals showcasing regional crafts and customs throughout the year.
Visitors can explore three main preserved structures: Gongjilou Tower, Qingyuanlou Tower, and Zhenshuolou Tower, which demonstrate different architectural periods.
The Qingyuanlou Tower contains the Xuanfu Town Bell, cast during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, marking time for centuries.
