Neuengamme

Neuengamme is a quarter in Hamburg's Bergedorf district situated near the Dove Elbe river. The area contains residential neighborhoods, farmland, and waterways that shape its character today.

Between 1938 and 1945, the location held a concentration camp where over 106,000 prisoners were imprisoned. After the war, two state prisons operated on the site from 1950 to 2004 before it became a memorial.
