Wunstorf, Independent municipality in Hanover region, Germany
Wunstorf is a municipality in the Hannover region of Lower Saxony, comprising ten localities including Blumenau, Bokeloh, and Steinhude. The town blends rural and urban character across its territory.
The settlement began around 700 CE as Wonherestorpe and became an established town by 1181. This development shaped the region's history over the following centuries.
The municipality maintains international connections through partnerships with Flers in France and Wolmirstedt in Germany, fostering regular cultural exchanges between communities.
The town is easily reached via two exits on motorway A2 and has a railway station with regular connections to Hannover. These transport links make it straightforward to access from outside.
An Air Force base in the town operates all German A400M military transport aircraft, which have been stationed here since 1978. This role makes the location central to German aviation logistics.
