Bodman-Ludwigshafen, Lakeside municipality in Konstanz, Germany

Bodman-Ludwigshafen is a two-village municipality on Lake Constance's northern shore, where the settlements are linked by lakeside paths and natural green spaces. Vineyards and orchards surround the village centers, creating a mixed landscape of residential areas and agricultural land along the water.

The name Lake Constance comes directly from Bodman village, which appears in medieval documents as an important settlement on the shore. Archaeological finds show the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, making it part of the region's longest human occupation.

Wine production has shaped the region for centuries, and local vineyards remain central to how people here live and identify their home. You can see this connection throughout the landscape, where grapevines cover the hillsides and define the character of the place.

The two villages are best explored by bicycle or on foot, with good paths connecting them and leading down to the water. Since the area is quieter and less touristy than other lake towns, it helps to check ahead for services and facilities you might need.

Prehistoric pile dwelling settlements lie underwater here and are part of a UNESCO World Heritage site covering 111 locations across Alpine lakes. These submerged villages from the Stone and Bronze ages offer rare insights into how early European communities lived and built their homes.
