Lingen, Administrative center in Emsland, Lower Saxony, Germany.

The city extends along both sides of the Ems River, featuring modern commercial districts and residential neighborhoods across its 176 square kilometers.

The settlement received its first written mention in 975 AD and developed from a medieval trading post into an independent county between 1388 and 1713.
