Lousberg

Lousberg is a hill with a landscape garden in Aachen that rises about 264 meters above the city. The mountain features walking trails throughout, designed green spaces, and several viewpoints where you can look out over the surroundings.

Lousberg was an important flint mining site during the Neolithic period, between 3500 and 3000 BC, when people extracted the brown-red stone to make tools. This early human activity shaped the hill's geological and cultural significance over thousands of years.

The park features bronze statues depicting characters from a local legend about the devil trying to bury the city under sand. These sculptures tell the story visibly as you walk through and connect visitors to the area's folklore.

Multiple trails lead through the mountain area and connect different sections of the park. Hammocks have been placed along the Nordhang slope since 2008 for visitors who want to rest during their walk.

The Belvedere Tower at the summit houses the MundArt restaurant, combining meals with sweeping views across the city below. It is one of the few places where dining at this height offers such expansive perspectives of the region.
