Marienturm, Medieval fortified tower in Aachen, Germany
The Marienturm stands with four-meter-thick walls, featuring two shooting slits in the basement and five shooting shafts in the upper floor.
Built in 1512 to replace the former Breuer Tower, the structure was designed to withstand cannon attacks during the military advancement of the period.
The tower contains a memorial site established in 1933, including a stone sarcophagus created by artist Mathias C. Korr to honor World War I casualties.
Located in northern Aachen next to Ponttor gate, the tower displays multiple stone ball impact marks from the 1638 battle against Spanish General de Grana.
The circular structure measures 14.70 meters in diameter, with a square front extension of 13.40 meters facing the city side.
