Theresienkirche

Theresienkirche is a baroque church in Aachen built with three-axial design, pilasters, and round-arched windows set in traditional brick. The building displays a segmental gable and sits within the city center's residential streetscape.

The church was built between 1739 and 1745 under architect Laurenz Mefferdatis' design. Fire damage in 1943 led to major reconstruction work during the 1950s.

The Romanian Orthodox community maintains the church and practices Eastern Orthodox traditions within this baroque structure. Visitors can observe the iconostasis and liturgical customs that differ from Western Christian churches.

The building sits near RWTH Aachen University and is easy to reach on foot from the city center. Regular Orthodox services take place on Sundays, and visitors are welcome to enter freely.

The church deviates from the typical east-west orientation of religious buildings and aligns instead with the local street grid. This uncommon alignment shapes how the structure sits within the city's urban fabric.
