Postwagen

The Postwagen consists of two connected historic houses built with wood and stone next to the eastern side of Aachen's City Hall. These structures date from the 17th century and continue to shape the character of the Market Square with their distinctive facade design.

The Postwagen was built in 1659 following a devastating city fire that destroyed earlier structures from 1394 in 1656. This reconstruction shaped the Market Square's development during the post-war period after the Thirty Years War.

The restaurant serves traditional Aachen specialties and regional beers in a setting that connects visitors to local food culture. This gastronomic tradition reflects how the city's residents have gathered and eaten together for centuries.

The building sits on Market Square next to City Hall and is easily accessible on foot. Event space can be reserved in advance for private or business gatherings.

The Postwagen is the only preserved wooden house in central Aachen, showcasing 17th-century architecture. Its timber construction and ornamental facade stand out noticeably from the stone buildings that surround it.
