Winnenden is a greater district town in the Rems-Murr district of Baden-Württemberg, located about 20 kilometers northeast of Stuttgart. The town sits at an elevation of 292 meters and encompasses several neighborhoods and districts that spread around the historic center.
The first documented mention of the town dates back to 1181, when Gottfried of Schauenburg-Winnenden held the castle. This reference appeared during the reign of Emperor Friedrich I.
The municipality maintains strong international connections through partnerships with Albertville in France since 1969 and Santo Domingo de la Calzada in Spain since 1993.
The town lies close to several neighboring places such as Backnang, Waiblingen, Fellbach, and Schorndorf, all reachable within 19 kilometers. Visitors can explore the different districts on foot or use local transport to reach the surrounding communities.
In 2008, the town worked together with Backnang to host the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships. This event underscored the role of the region in education and international communication.
