Rostock Zoo

Rostock Zoo, Animal park in Rostock, Germany

Rostock Zoo is an animal park on the German Baltic coast that spreads across large green areas and houses hundreds of animal species. The various enclosures are designed for different climate zones, and there is also a large indoor building with many species under one roof.

The zoo was founded in the late 1800s on the grounds of a former military base and began with a small collection of wild boars and deer. Over time, the facility grew and became a modern zoo with international importance.

The zoo plays an important role in coordinating polar bear breeding programs with other zoos across Europe, and visitors can observe these animals in spacious enclosures. This work reflects a broader commitment to helping endangered species survive and thrive.

The grounds are easy to walk through, with paths leading continuously to different areas and rest spots scattered throughout. If you do not want to see everything in one visit, you can plan multiple trips, as different animals are easier to observe during certain seasons.

A large modern glass structure displays tropical and other climate zones, allowing visitors to see multiple species on rainy or cold days. This indoor building also houses rare species that would otherwise be difficult to observe.
